Where the Heat is On…

Not So Fat…Is exactly where you need to be if you want to shed those pesky pounds before a special event, your wedding or just to feel great about yourself. The photo to the right is a recent photo from my bachelorette party in South Beach, Miami which was this past weekend (holler to all my Hot Bridesmaid “Beaches”!!!) and today marks the final month before my wedding. I have made quite the transformation and I am feeling spectacular but I want lose just five more pounds to get to the “WoW!!!” weight. Today, I received a super motivational/inspiring/heartwarming Facebook message from a girlfriend and sorority sister (I am a Delta Gamma). She is recently engaged and is tying the knot in June of 2013 – she asked me where has my blog gone?!? and can I give her some words of wisdom for getting into the shape of your life.

Question 1: My blog is up and running and I intend to keep it that way – my mid year resolution is to write when I can and keep women like me inspired and feeling good about themselves.

Question 2: Stay heated! If you want to lose weight, there are no magic pills, tricks, videos, weird infomercial machines, drops, fat suction techniques that cost thousands of dollars that will work. I can tell you what works and it is making sure that your body heats up at least four times a week. Contrary to popular belief the best way for women to shed wiggles is to weight train – no it will not make you look like the former governor of California or the Terminator. I won’t go on and on about the benefits of weight training, but I will refer you to some links:

Women’s Health

So, yeah – start your weight loss regime and body transformation by pumping some iron or doing yoga (yoga is weight training, but instead of using weights, you are using your body and nature.) Okay, while I wish I could tell you that all you need to do is lift a five pound dumb bell every once in a while, unfortunately, at least for me, wiggles and jiggles are a bit persistent and they are not going to sulk away without a little cardio thrown in the mix. My biggest recommendation for cardio is to spend money on it – either do a spin class or spend money on the greatest and newest dance songs for your iPod if you are working out on a machine at your gym. Fun music will keep you pumped – I find that the fast the music is, the faster I want to move my body.

Above is the fun stuff. Now, let’s get to the real, almost criminal, torture of working off some unwanted weight. EAT CLEAN!!!! Pretty simple, but not exactly fun or enjoyable. This means, no white carbohydrates (with the exception of things like Apples and Bananas – although staying away from Bananas tends to be a good call as they are super high in both fat and sugar.) You can still eat carbs, but go for brown rice on your spicy tuna roll. Do you love tempura crunch on your sushi? Swap in cucumber for the tempura crunch – way healthier and tastes just as good. A typical day of food for me is outlined below:

Breakfast: Siggi’s Icelandic Orange & Ginger Yogurt (I love these, but Fage is just as good, if not better for you – stick to 0% Fage without any sugary goopy stuff)

Morning Snack: 1 Fuji apple

Lunch: Palm Beach Shrimp salad from Chop’t – tip here – NEVER EVER get the DRESSING that all these little salad places have in their stores – always opt for lemon juice, a drizzle of E.V.O.O.

Afternoon Snack: 1 Pint of Organic Grape Tomatoes

Dinner: Miso Soup and 1 Brown Rice Spicy Tuna Roll with Cucumber or Grilled chicken with steamed veggies

Now let’s be clear – I am not super woman and don’t have the best will power in the world so unfortunately this eating regime does not occur every single day of my life, but it has occurred enough days to allow me to drop 25 lbs. Additionally, I cannot allow myself to be completely anti-social and not eat or drink normally at social gatherings – when out and about with friends, I am sure to watch myself and if I forget a little, I just relax and counteract my bad habits the next day at the gym.

Let me know if you have any questions, complaints (I know I do – being a woman and trying to stay lean and fit sucks – I was meant to drink wine and have attractive men feeding me grapes, bread and manchego), or additional good pointers!

Lots of love to all my beautiful ladies!

Xoxo,
Fat Girl
